Singer-songwriter thea wang is back with her latest melancholic single, Jennifer. With her intense lyrics and plucked acoustic guitar, thea develops her ability to create haunting melodies and atmospheres.

Unveiling the story of the title character slowly through emotional vocals and intense storytelling, thea completes a trilogy of songs dedicated to the messy feelings surrounding various relationships, with the new single following on from While He Is Still Asleep and Tell Me About It. The story of Jennifer looks in from the perspective of the title character’s partner, and deals with the pains of a modern love triangle.

Speaking of the story behind the track, thea said: “I watched my neighbours’ confrontation, and then imagined the ultimate breakup where the main character is (almost unbelievably) happy for her partner to fall in love behind her back. The most important thing for this person is for Jennifer to be happy, and free to leave if that is what feels right to her.”

“Ultimately I guess it’s about a toxic relationship,” explains thea, “and about someone being treated quite badly, and the counterpoint and desperation in someone trying to keep a relationship, no matter what.”

With the help from producer Andrew Keller to deliver her upcoming debut album, thea’s modern blend of acoustics and electronic techniques is what makes her mixture of folk and pop unique.
