Japanese dream-pop quartet The fin. – Yuto Uchino (vocals and synths), Ryosuke Odagaki (guitar), Takayasu Taguchi (bass) and Kaoru Nakazawa (drums) – presents their ‘Through The Deep’ Remix EP (out on the 25th of November via Lost In The Manor records) and talk drinking all the beer in an Izakaya (Japanese gastropub), Kobe’s scene and good films…
The remix package includes electronic tinged, smart reworks by All We Are, Ten Fe and the Field, that give a new spin to ‘Through The Deep’ EP, their special set of heavenly refreshing and intense, Oceanic-pop gems.
First up guys, how are you?
We’re doing good. Enjoying our new lives in London.
How’s life in London for you, so far?
Everything’s great. Tons of new experiences and new ideas.
What’s the idea behind the ‘Through The Deep’ remix EP’s collaborations with The Field, Ten Fé and All We Are?
We always love hearing remixes of our music. We’ve had some great artists like Anchorsong and Petite Noir remix our material in the past. Before we release the next full album, we wanted to share something cool. We toured Japan with All We Are and knew they were talented producers. So they were a natural choice when we wanted remixes done. We were delighted when The Field and Ten Fe also said they would like to do remixes for us. So we decided to make it an EP. All the creative energy inspired me to make my first remix as well. Now it feels like a complete record. What is one unforgettable tour memory, in Japan with Liverpool trio All We Are?
The tour was totally amazing. We were literally drunk every night and had fun after the shows. There was a night that we drank all the beer in an Izakaya.
What do you miss the most of Kobe?
The scent of my home town. Sometimes I get old feelings that I felt when I was a kid, even though I’m in London. It’s strange, but I love it. Of course I miss my family and friends too.
What’s the music scene like in Kobe?
The music scene in Kobe is really vibrant with a local artists performing everything from hip hop to j pop and grunge.
However, we are probably more influenced by music we find on the internet.
Which animal would best suit the band’s personality?
What kind of music are you listening these days?
‘Blonde’ by Frank Ocean
Are there any good films that you guys are seeing recently?
I saw ‘Into The Wild’ for the first time in a long time. The story’s really sad, but so beautiful.
Do you guys follow any TV shows?
We don’t now. We want to discover some good TV shows in the UK but have been too busy recording our new record.
Tell us about your next show and why we should be there
Our show is in transition a the moment. I want it to be more deep. Thus we are trying out unusual spaces and platforms around London at the moment. We played a warehouse party in South London in October. And at the end of November we are throwing an all nighter in a basement in East London with some brilliant DJ’s, producers, VJ’s and up and coming bands. Dates on our Facebook if you want to come.
