REVERIEME’S EP ‘OR ELSE THE LIGHT’: ‘IT STRADDLES THE LINE BETWEEN SADNESS AND PLAYFULNESS’

Singer songwriters mostly deal in introspection, but far too many disappear into the quagmire of melancholia and forget that, first and foremost, music should be fun to listen to.

Not so Reverieme, whose latest EP ‘Or Else The Light’ straddles the line between sadness and playfulness, with a press release that proclaims (real name) Louise Connell can play guitar with her nose, and a gorgeous music video with two instances that will make your skin crawl.

The entire release is deliciously offbeat, with tracks packed with banjo’s, ukes and guitars (all plucked by Reverieme’s fair hand), but with a haunting quality that makes tracks like ‘Plankton’ or ‘Outside’ stay with you long after you’ve switched off the stereo.

Her vocal delivery, while reminiscent of Regina Spektor, is much smoother, less hasty allowing the lyrics to swim around your ears before planting themselves in your head.

Whether you’re a hardcore folk fan, or just appreciate a cracking song, you’d do well to check out Reverie – we’re pretty sure she’s going places.

‘Or Else The Light’ is out now via 9th Story Records.
