mimsi1Mimsi’s ’24 (I’m Yours)’, is a sultry pop and trap infused dance number – produced by Fidel Rosales and Chris Patrick – that demands a complete attention from the start. That’s why we had to chat with the lovely 23-year-old, West London singer/songwriter, about her debut single (featuring Twissman and Starboi), on working with producers Rockizm, Funkiipapa and Joe Black, on her debut EP and about her sweet open mike nights and concerts at school as a teenager…

Tell us everything we should know about your debut single ’24 (I’m Yours)’.

It’s about the early stages of a new relationship, when all you want to do is spend time together and all you can think about is each other. Its all consuming and slightly over the top. The track has a dance beat to it, which makes it great for parties or getting ready to go out.

What were your influences whilst writing it?

I think most people can recognize those all consuming feelings when it comes to new relationships and I wanted to touch on the excitement of it all.

How did the collaboration with Twissman and Starboi, come up?

I met both Twissman and Starboi around two years ago (separately) when they were finishing up studio sessions in Karl Blacksmiths studio, a place that I have spent many hours song writing and recording. We have collaborated on other tracks but none as special as this one! Both of them are very talented at what they do and are a real pleasure to work with.

We know you are working with producers Rockizm, Funkiipapa and Joe Black, on your EP…Can you tell us more?

Sure, the EP has seven new tracks on it ranging from urban, pop dance to reggae so there is a real eclectic mix on there of great genres. There are some influences from major lazer and skrillex too, which mixes things up a bit. I am really looking forward to sharing it with you all.Mimsi From studying songwriting and performing since childhood and working for Karl & Tim Blacksmiths…How has your music evolved since you first began writing and playing music?

I went to drama school but to the dismay of my tutors I fell in love with singing and songwriting and kept gravitating more towards that aspect. By the time I finished my degree, I had already begun to work with Chris Patrick, Fidel Rosales and Karl Blacksmith and knew that I was aiming for a career as a Singer/Songwriter.

What is your first memory of wanting to be a singer and songwriter?

I have wanted to be a singer for a long time, I used to perform at all of the open mike nights and concerts at school as a teenager and I started writing from a very young age 9 (much to my family’s amusement) but only really had the opportunity to hone in my skills when I meet Chris and Fidel.

Who has helped you the most get to where you are today?

I will always be extremely grateful to Chris and Fidel because they have supported me and encouraged my writing and singing from the get go and without them I would not be at this stage today. My parents have also been a great support, they are always really proud of me and that’s a nice feeling.

Are you planning any live shows and what will they be like?

Absolutely! We are soon to launch our new music video for the 24 single over the next couple of weeks and there will certainly be some live performances in the latter half of this year. So keep an eye out!

What kind of music do you listen to?

I literally listen to a bit of everything but at the moment, I really love Izzy Bizu, she has a beautiful voice and creates wonderful melodies in her songs. Her album is great! However you cannot beat the classics like Prince and Fleetwood Mac!
