London-based Sam Gillbanks aka GILLBANKS releases his EP ‘Lend Me Your Skin’ on November 27th via Tusk Records. The EP is a collection of convincingly delivered commix of rather good grunge and Brit Pop.

Hi GILLBANKS! How are you today?

I’m very well today. Been working on some new material. Thanks for asking.

How did you get into writing music?

I got my first guitar when I was around 8. It was an Aria Strat copy that my Mum got for me and I loved the thing. I used to noodle away on it before I knew how to play and came up with little melodies. None of it was any good of course.

I would say the first time I started to write songs was with my friend Jack when I was about 15. I used to go round his and we’d see what we would could up with together. From then on I’ve been writing songs ever since.

Describe your sound in five words:

Dirty, Playful, Atmospheric, Dynamic, Engaging.

What’s the story behind your EP ‘Lend Me Your Skin’?

Lend Me Your Skin represents a surge of creativity between March 2014 – July 2014. It’s a tale of frustration, disappointment and love. From the start of recording this EP I set out to create pop songs that were filled with hooks but had plenty of depth to them. I feel that this EP showcases this well and I’m really proud of it.

If you could collaborate with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

Alive: Damon Albarn.

Deceased: John Lennon.

What is your favourite live music venue in London and why?

It’s hard to pick just one so I’m going to go with The Old Blue Last for it’s continuing vision for introducing great new bands to the public and the Roundhouse because it’s iconic and gives you a fuzzy feeling as you step foot inside.

Where can we catch you performing soon?

We have a few dates left for this year. You can catch me performing with my full band at the dates included below:

20th November – Urban Bar – Whitechapel w/ Lost Dawn

27th November – Four Quarters (EP Release Party) – Peckham w/ Penelope Isles, Tony Njoku & Kelkut

What’s the plan for GILLBANKS in 2016?

In 2016 we plan to play more shows around London, play a UK tour and hopefully head to Europe too. In terms of releases I have something else in the pipeline and will hopefully have something else towards the end of next year too.
