Swedish artist and producer Venus Anon strips her sound back on florence!, a self-produced new single built around delicate guitar textures, restraint and the complicated responsibility of being an older sister.
The track previews forthcoming four-track EP Will You Allow It? and is named after the middle name Venus chose for her younger sister.
Self-produced and guitar-led, florence! keeps things intimate, leaving space for the vocal and the tension between protection, responsibility and uncertainty.
As Venus explains:
It’s a love letter, a thank you and an ‘I’ll do my best and I pray it’s enough.’
That outward-looking perspective contrasts with previous single gentle, which focused more closely on anger, restraint and choosing softness. Together, the tracks begin to establish an EP concerned with what happens when relationships force personal change.
The release also follows cathy, quietly, an ambient reinterpretation of material from Venus’ Catharsis EP. That project already showed her interest in reshaping songs through atmosphere and space rather than treating production as a fixed endpoint.
For FM PRO TECH, florence! continues that approach on a smaller scale. The technology stays deliberately invisible: self-production, guitar texture and vocal space are used to support the relationship at the centre of the song rather than compete with it.
Sometimes the production move is knowing what not to add.
