Following the massive success of their concert at Ward Park in 2007, Snow Patrol have just announced that they will be returning to the venue in the summer of 2010. Snow Patrol will play Ward Park, Bangor on Saturday 5th June.
Singer/songwriter Gary Lightbody and drummer Jonny Quinn will be returning home to perform in Bangor, the town where they both grew up. The band’s massive show at Ward Park in 2007 saw a sell-out crowd of 30,000 adoring fans welcome the band home in true Northern Irish fashion. And next year’s show promises to be even bigger and better!
The event will be a festival, not just a Snow Patrol performance. Several more bands will be added to the bill over the next few months. The band round off their Reworked UK and Ireland tour in Belfast this week. The shows have seen the five-piece re-invent songs from their 15-year career and, according to Gary, the fans have been delighted with the results.
“It’s been great for us to have a change of pace and to do something different at the end of the year,†he said. “We’ve had so many musicians and wonderful guests and the reactions has been amazing.
“If anything, the shows have gone down even better than anything we’ve done before. “It’s been a pretty exhausting tour, too, but I feel revitalised being back in Belfast. “I’ve moved back here but I’ve been on the road so much this year, so I’m delighted to be home.â€
From their formation in 1994 Snow Patrol’s hard-earned rise has seen them become one of the world’s biggest bands, culminating in them selling over ten million copies of their last three albums (2003’s ‘Final Straw’, ‘Eyes Open’ – released in 2006 – and last year’s ‘A Hundred Million Suns’), taking in Grammy, BRIT, BMI, Meteor and Ivor Novello nominations and awards along the way.
Snow Patrol are one of the biggest and boldest bands of the past decade. Over fifteen years and five studio albums, the five piece – singer songwriter Gary Lightbody, bassist Paul Wilson, guitarist Nathan Connolly, Jonny Quinn on drums and keyboardist Tom Simpson – have sketched heart-bruised ballads, arm-around-your-best-mate festival anthems, radio hits and moments of painful introspection.
All of these have been gathered together for the band’s current release ‘Up To Now’, a thirty track, double album of the band’s highlights to date and also heralds the start of their future with the monumental new single “Just Say Yesâ€. The album features the global smash hits “Chasing Cars†and the anthemic “Run†that accompany other Snow Patrol classics such as “Chocolate†and “Shut Your Eyes†as well as two other new songs, “Give Me Strength†and “Dark Roman Wineâ€. It has been in the Top 10 for over a month now and went platinum in the first week of release.
