R.E.M. and MUBI have released a new edit of Supernatural Superserious, pairing the band’s 2008 track with scenes from Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
Originally released on Accelerate, the song returns through R.E.M. x CAMP MIASMA, connecting the band’s catalogue with Schoenbrun’s story of fandom, desire and a slasher franchise’s attempted resurrection.
Schoenbrun said:
R.E.M.’s music is simply one of the most beautiful gifts out there, and the two songs I’m so honored to feature in Camp Miasma mean so much to me, and are so influential to the DNA of this movie.
Starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, the film follows a young director tasked with reviving the fictional Camp Miasma franchise. A visit to its reclusive original star draws both women into a blood-soaked world of fear and delirium.
R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe offered his own endorsement:
With Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Schoenbrun has somehow made the funniest, deepest and most transgressive film of the year. On par with Being John Malkovich.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is streaming exclusively on MUBI. Its soundtrack, featuring Supernatural Superserious, is available digitally and on vinyl, CD and cassette through Waxworks Records.
