kav. is a musical collective fronted by London-based artist Pierce Kavanagh, returning for their third single with the compelling ‘air to live’.
Melancholically yet hopefully toned, understated yet beautifully crafted, this indie-rock track features pensive lyricism delivered with gruff vocals soaring over driving, fuzzy guitars in a richly layered soundscape. A sample offering from their debut EP coming later in the year, its sound nods to influences like The National, Damian Rice and Frightened Rabbit.
Speaking about the track’s organic provenance, Kavanagh stated:
“It is one of the weird songs that kind of just came out, the writing process felt really smooth, I guess it was quite cathartic as the lyrics seem to write themselves and make sense, which doesn’t happen very often for me.”
Recorded in New York by producer Eric Sanderson (We Are Augustines), ‘air to live’ was also mixed by Peter Katis (The National, Frightened Rabbit, The Boxer Rebellion). Kav.’s first 2 releases ‘dissolve’ and ‘animal brain’ received critical acclaim and they have already reached over 40k streams on Spotify. We’ll be excited to follow along with their journey further.
