GRAMMY-winning pop artist Kim Petras extends the world of Detour with Detour Rare N’ Deluxe, adding five fan-requested tracks to the album.
Executive produced by Petras and Margo XS, the expanded 18-track release includes Pop Sound, Rare N’ Deluxe, Like A Cherry, What A Night and new focus track Autobahn. Petras co-wrote every song, collaborating with Margo XS, Frost Children, nightfeelings, atlgrandma, Desire and UHD.
The darker sister track to Jeep, Autobahn blurs escape and self-destruction, while its Neve Abcari-directed video extends Detour’s gritty roadside world.
Working with creative director Eli Sheppard, Petras rejected the pristine visual language expected from a major pop campaign. Images were captured spontaneously on an iPhone 4, while receipts, parking tickets and discarded objects became part of the album’s storytelling.
Roadworks, traffic and construction replace glamorous cars, reflecting a career chapter defined by delays, obstacles and creative redirection. Petras also largely styled the campaign herself using vintage pieces, resale finds and items from her personal archive.
That independent approach extends to a series of self-funded videos for Freak It, I Like Ur Look, Need For Speed, Jeep and Autobahn, placing creative ownership at the centre of the project rather than treating it as a marketing footnote.
Petras will perform music from Detour Rare N’ Deluxe and discuss the project during a special evening at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles on October 1.
