29 March 2024

Hailing from Virginia, Julian Roy breaks the mold of traditional recording artists, drawing inspiration from music legends like Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley.

Roy’s musical voyage began when he taught himself guitar in Thailand and honed his songwriting skills in Nashville before launching his career in Los Angeles. With over 50 countries under his belt, Roy connects with people globally through music and soccer.

Apart from his solo work, Julian Roy is a prolific songwriter for artists across LA, NYC, Colombia, and Korea, leveraging his insights from his involvement with BandPage (an application that powered over 500,000 artists’ Facebook Pages), a music startup founded by his brother. Now, after collaborations with major artists and acclaim for his debut EP, 18 lbs, Roy unveils his highly anticipated debut album, friends first.

Recorded amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the album draws from Roy’s personal experiences and global travels, featuring 14 tracks that blend genres like R&B, indie-pop, and Neo-Soul.

Reflecting on the album, Roy shares, friends first was recorded during and after COVID-19, shaped by personal loss and resilience:

…in the middle of so much heartbreak and pain, during this time my father also passed away which shaped parts of the album. friends first, has nine different producers, was recorded in Mexico, USA, Colombia, and Norway (three continents), and has seven featured artists.”

Each track offers a unique narrative, from the infectious rhythms of MKB to the introspective melodies of Bad Dreams, showcasing Roy’s commitment to artistic authenticity and creative expression.
