What inspired you to want to work in the music industry?

I grew up loving hip-hop through my brother but also unconsciously loving melody and arrangement from my parents’ music. I loved reading about producers and beat makers but never considered that I could do those things. I went to college for fine art but eventually changed to a music production course and I’ve been obsessed with getting better at that since.

How did you go about getting your foot in the door?

I wouldn’t say I’m there yet but I’ve been lucky to find a collaborative space through Asher Roth’s Discord and found really good artists to work with and develop with there while also learning my own skills through college too.

What artist or release has had the most impact on you?

Kanye West. The personality is one thing but the music lives on its own emotionally and I was in awe of his productions, especially Late Registration with all of its live orchestral instruments.

Career highlight so far?

My latest EP Loose Time with Cleveland singer Marcus Smith. My previous EP was all done with MIDI instruments so this was a big jump for me to work with all live instruments including brass, winds and strings – while working in a new genre and moving away from rap temporarily.

Best bit of advice for those looking to break into the industry and what to expect?

Collaborate, learn from the mistakes for the next time – it’s not going to be perfect straight away.

What projects are you working on at the moment?

I’ve recently released a single featuring Tha God Fahim, Code Will & Bedrooms. I’ve recently mixed and mastered an Asher Roth song. I’m trying to get more mixing work for others before releasing any more of my own music. I’m trying to get a job in London for studio recording so that I can get better.
