Canadian singer-songwriter Heather Ferguson introduces Broken Horned Kudu. A cross-continental recording that channels jazz tradition into a wider, collaborative frame.
Tracked between Cape Town and Victoria, the single connects Ferguson with South African musicians under the direction of pianist and arranger George Werner, before moving into post-production with Wynn Gogol. The structure stays intentional. Cape Jazz phrasing, African rhythmic foundations, and open acoustic spacing, allowing each voice to sit clearly while maintaining a unified tone.

The writing draws from lived experience. Inspired by Ferguson’s travels across East and Southern Africa, Broken Horned Kudu channels resilience and fragility through bilingual English–Xhosa delivery, with a close, narrative-led vocal and restrained instrumentation that opens the emotional range without crowding the mix. Ferguson explains:
‘Broken Horned Kudu’ became a way to talk about resilience and the will to survive, even when that resilience is compromised by desperate choices. Despite that, we find hope. In Xhosa, they say Kuzolunga — it will all be fine.

At production level, the session leans into ensemble interplay; trumpet, piano, and rhythm section prioritising feel over density, shaping a measured, story-first recording.
The release moves Ferguson into a more connected frame. Same core voice, wider reach, stronger dialogue.
