Johannesburg-based artist and songwriter D-Chris returns with Metamorphosis, a Gothic Soul-Rock ballad exploring release, fear and personal transformation.
The track began with lyrics written by Alicia Ceronio about letting go of the past. D-Chris refined the rhythm, phrasing and imagery while keeping the emotional core intact.
At its centre is the line:
I’ve been becoming all along.
Rather than treating transformation as becoming someone completely new, Metamorphosis looks at recognising the person already developing underneath earlier versions of the self.
The single also continues FYP Sound Emporium’s “3 Word Challenge”, where each song begins with three words submitted by someone before D-Chris builds an original track around their story.
The wider FYP Sound Emporium catalogue moves freely between rock, pop, electronic and orchestral ideas, combining traditional songwriting with cinematic production and modern AI-assisted creativity.
The project now spans 1,200+ songs across 60+ albums. On Metamorphosis, the focus is simpler; growth means recognising the change already underway.
