Copenhagen duo Fake Mannequin – Amy Horn and Tor Laurens – arrive with Same Tree, a debut that recalibrates trip-hop through contrast rather than revivalism.
The name sets the tone: artificial yet alive, mechanical yet human; a duality that defines the project’s core.
The pair connected by chance at Copenhagen harbour, quickly finding an instinctive creative alignment. In the studio, ideas formed with minimal discussion, less negotiation, more intuition.

Same Tree moves between minimalist trip-hop, dark pop, and restrained electropop. Machine-led rhythms and sculpted synths frame warm low-end and tactile detail, while Horn’s vocal shifts from close-mic fragility to controlled lift.
Lyrically, the track traces the quiet fracture of a once-unbreakable bond, shared roots, diverging paths. Personal in origin, universal in effect.
Last night her words were cutting into my heart againThis time I’m trying not to let her in, her in
She’s been stuck so long she’s determined to move
Any way out of hereTry to cut to the chase to compare and erase
My paceNo no it’s not working
‘Cause I’ve seen the world
Now I see you differently
No no it’s not your fault
We’re growing up
And branching into two
Although we’re heading different ways
We’re growing from the same tree
Although our shapes are shifting
We’re still made out of the same wood
From the same tree
Produced and mixed by Laurens, Same Tree opens the first chapter of Fake Mannequin’s forthcoming debut album, a body of work built on atmosphere, tension, and emotional precision.
