Chichester natives turned Brighton darlings, DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD, make a triumphant return with their latest single, Now or Never. This vibrant track exudes the band’s trademark breezy, sun-soaked sophisticated-beach-indie vibe, marking their first release of 2024 and signaling a tidal wave of new music on the horizon.

After years of captivating audiences across the UK and beyond, with sold-out shows, European and US tours (including an appearance at SXSW), and regular radio play on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, and Radio X, DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD has cultivated a devoted fanbase eagerly awaiting each new release. With fresh material slated for release via AntiFragile Music and a jam-packed summer of festival appearances followed by a tour later in the year, the trio embarks on 2024 with a renewed sense of purpose and infectious anticipation.

Produced by Rob Quickenden in collaboration with DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD, Now or Never encapsulates the band’s signature feel-good aesthetic, characterized by vibrant melodies and buoyant, jangly guitar riffs. The track, awash in reverb, juxtaposes stylistic bittersweet lyricism with its upbeat musicality, culminating in an explosive climax that perfectly captures the euphoric essence of the band.

As eloquently described by Steve Lamacq of BBC Radio 6 Music, “There’s something wonderful and wilfully gleeful about this which despite the title rather reminds me of the great jangle-fest which was the mid 80’s.”

When it comes to the track, Sam Thrussell, the lead vocalist and songwriter, reveals, “’Now or Never’ began life very differently – as a little acoustic guitar demo I made. I used a tuning that I had adapted from a John Fahey piece I was learning at the time (DGDF#AD) and was inspired by M. Ward’s ‘The First Time I Ran Away’! I showed the band and they both were adamant it could be adapted into a full band DCR tune, which is where we added the dreamy intro and the heavy (by our standards) rock out at the end! The song itself is about acknowledging your mistakes and shortcomings and hopefully becoming a better person from that as a result.”

Having experienced exponential growth in recent years, bolstered by their TikTok presence boasting over 500k followers, DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD, comprising Sam Thrussell, Joe Frampton, and Joe Delaney-Stone, has garnered a feverish anticipation for their new material. With a discography spanning labels such as Alcopop, FRTYFVE, and now Antifragile, the band has amassed over 10 million streams on Spotify alone.

Following a successful European tour with Sea Girls and appearances at renowned festivals like SXSW, Stag & Dagger, and Ynot, DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD is poised for further triumphs as they unleash more captivating tunes upon their devoted fanbase.
