Atticus Kane opens up his previously self-contained recording process on News From Delphi, a twelve-track album shaped by collaboration, pedal steel and questions without easy answers.

The Brooklyn-based songwriter and producer developed the record with Lucas Murray and Simon Thomas George, selecting its final songs from a wider collection of new and older material. Kane says:

Because I was collaborating with Simon and Lucas, the process for this album was quite different from my previous ones, where I worked on them solo. They immediately understood the vision and helped refine the production in ways I couldn’t have achieved alone.

Alternative folk, understated rock and cinematic pop move through songs exploring relationships, anxiety and personal growth. Pedal steel appears throughout, detached from its usual country setting and used instead as an atmospheric thread.

The use of the pedal steel in particular was important to me. It’s such a beautiful and versatile instrument, and I wanted to feature it in a unique way that feels different from how most people associate it with country music.

Focus track Morning Blue captures the album’s quieter centre, while Burned By You, Love Me Not, Electric Collisions and Ode To Minerva move between intimate experience and wider uncertainty. Kane shares:

It’s been a great joy to share these songs and see others connecting with them. That’s ultimately what music is about for me.

News From Delphi feels less like an attempt to decode the future than a record of learning to live without the answer.
