Angèle pushes her next era further into electronic pop with Une seule vie, the latest track from INSTINCT, out October 16 via Angèle VL Records/Sony Music.
Produced by Angèle and Tristan Salvati, the single turns questions of truth, identity and uncertainty into bright dancefloor momentum. It follows Dis-Le and What You Want, her collaboration with Justice.
The accompanying video was written and directed by visual artist Thomas Mailaender and filmed entirely on 16mm in southern France. Stop motion, mirrors, superimpositions and printed images create its surreal effects in-camera, while the August 12 total solar eclipse was captured live on film. Mailaender explains:
We imagined the video as a succession of memories, visions and mental images that physically burst into Angèle’s reality. Analogue thus becomes the natural language of the video: a fragile, imperfect material to talk about memory, nostalgia and time slipping away from us.
Featuring Soulwax, Justice, Caroline Polachek and SebastiAn, INSTINCT uses electronic production and chrome imagery to explore the tension between control and release.
By pairing synthetic sound with imperfect analogue visuals, Angèle gives the album’s central conflict a clear form: polished on the surface, unstable and deeply human underneath.
