If the past year has taught travellers anything, it’s that no trip is ever guaranteed. Even if your holiday has been booked and paid for, anything can happen to derail your plans. While this has been a hard lesson for holiday goers to learn, it doesn’t mean that there is no way to guarantee yourself the rest and relaxation that you need in the coming year.
At this point in time, planning and flexibility are everything. It is important to give yourself the break that you deserve after all that you do week in and week out, but you will need to get creative this year in order to accomplish this.
Here are three options that you can consider that are great alternatives to going away on holiday this year.

1. A Staycation
One of the best alternatives that you can opt for when you are searching for a way to get a break is to have a staycation. A staycation is like a holiday or a vacation, but it involves staying in your hometown or at least not venturing too far away to get the break you want.
Unlike a traditional holiday, there is no stressful air travel involved in a staycation. You can simply load up the car with the few things you will need and drive to your destination. This might be an elegant hotel in your hometown or some Luxury Lodges in a city nearby.
The beauty of a staycation is that it gives you the opportunity to play the tourist in your own region. While you might have lived in a certain area your whole life, you might not have ever been compelled to look around at what truly makes that area unique. You can explore and enjoy some new experiences without having to go very far.
2. Take a Mental Holiday
When you go on holiday, you get the opportunity to step away from work and life for a little while to recharge and evaluate your perspective. Just because you can’t jet-set off to a foreign tropical beach somewhere, that doesn’t mean you can’t give yourself the mental holiday that you need at this moment.
Take a few days off work so that you can recharge in that aspect. It can also be helpful to ask your friends and family to act as if you are on holiday and let you recharge without the constant phone calls and visits. Plan some relaxing things that you can do at home, like a spa day or movie night. This can serve as the perfect mental holiday.
3. Have a Friends’ Night
Sometimes, the best part about going on holiday is the chance to spend some quality time with your closest friends. If you and your mates are missing out on that week away together, you can still plan to have some fun by scheduling a friends’ night. Have everyone agree on a day and time and do something that you all enjoy. You don’t have to leave the country to make some great memories with your friends!
