Bristol four-man band Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine have released their brand new track Softly Softly Catchy Monkey, and it’s as raw and engaging as they come. A self-described ‘limb core’ band, they describe themselves as “a full-bodied 4 piece with floral notes, earthy undertones and a smooth finish.”
This stirring, unexpected single is edgy, and could even be described as a little unsettling while presenting us with an enlightening perspective. It is this dynamic, unexpected quality that sets these performers apart from other artists, along with their superbly immersive live performances.
Since lockdown was lifted, they’ve been gigging relentlessly. Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine have developed and honed their skills, and have really made a name for themselves as one of Bristol’s premiere psychedelic rock bands.
Lead vocalist Smudger Lewis shares his insights on how the name of their song was created. “I tried writing a song title as ridiculous as the band’s name without getting my eyes wet. I then threw in a couple of references to road signs and travel so the song is literally all over the place. Which is what we set out to achieve when writing it and it feels like we have captured a frenetic feel when performing it at our live shows.”
The band’s members are Smudger Lewis – vocals/guitar, Harri Elliot – synth/vocals, Duncan Whitelock – bass/vocals and Seamus Daley-Dee – drums.
Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine are certainly one to watch out for in 2023.
