London rap artist BREIS has released his brand new single Wahala in collaboration with German Nigerian neo-soul star Nneka.
The artist with Nigerian roots is based in South London and now announces his highly appreciated EP Arise & Shine, due to be released later this month. Wahala is the first insight into this upcoming project and BREIS first song ever with parts of the traditional language Nigerian Pidgin.
Together with producer Brixton DJ and singer Nneka he delivers a vintage reggae tune with afrobeats, hip-hop elements and a deep storytelling in English and Nigerian Pidgin. Nneka offers a soulful vocaline which adds special energy to the single.
The song is about ‘wahala’ – what means trouble in Nigerian Pidgin. BREIS’ main point in the song is that everybody goes through trouble. “The take away from Wahala is that everybody has some sort of wahala to deal with, be smart in how you respond to it”, he explains.
“The lockdown has affected different people in different ways, some have lost loved ones, businesses have folded, people have had to reassess their relationships, and for some, mental health has been a problem”, BREIS says about the current situation and his connection to the single.
The accompanied visuals were filmed in South Africa and tell a story about heartbreak and violence.
