By Vee D

The latest release from the stunning choral ensemble VOCES8 vocalises Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson’s contemporary version of the 13th-century Icelandic hymn, Heyr Himma Smidur. As the accompaniment of voices gather together for spine-tingling choral crescendos the listener is gripped in pulsing harmonies

The sublime cadences of the composition are a taste of what is to come on VOCE8’s upcoming album Infinity. As well as this emotive adaptation, the choral group have also reworked pieces by Jon HopkinsHildur Guðnadóttir and Stephen Barton.

Through their collaborations with composers and solo performances, the British group’s vibrant vitality has introduced a whole new world of listeners to vocal ensembles. As well as performing worldwide they have also been involved consistently in outreach programs and have raised over £1million for musical education as well as launching “VOCES8 digital academy”, an online choral program for schools.
