“The songs make direct reference to the source material whilst drawing the comparisons and parallels with the current state of the world”

Vaughty, hailing from a remote mining town in South Africa, is a gifted self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer that moved to the UK back in 1999. Following the release of his deluxe album Dark Society in 2022, Vaughty returns with the genre-defying single 1984, the strong title song taken from his new 5-track EP 1984 – out now via Aggro Monkey Records.

1984 stands out for its dark melody combined with a powerful use of synthesized sounds. Featuring the lush voice of Cherry Ballard, the music video illustrates the heartbreaking story of three people struggling to survive a nuclear disaster.

The underlying message of the EP 1984 is loud and clear – humanity must wake up and take action to prevent the impending catastrophe. Vaughty described the curation process of this EP as one that radiates this call to action: “This project is inspired by the George Orwell classic – The songs make direct reference to the source material whilst drawing comparisons and parallels with the current state of the world”. And he adds: “My songs reflect the human condition. To me, emotion, melody and atmosphere are the most important elements in music”

Vaughty’s EP heralds a new direction, darker and edgier than what he has done before, yet managing to preserve that special sound that his fans cherished in Dark Society.

Vaughty has credited multiple artists such as Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Vince Clarke for inspiring his sound.

In addition to his musical project, Vaughty, (Vaughn George) has also created a successful Youtube channel providing music reviews and advice to upcoming artists. As well as this, Vaughn is a successful artist development coach, with the goal of helping musicians gain access to essential industry resources and reach their full potential.
