After spending the last year building up his name with the gloriously impressive initial EPs Yellow and III alongside producer and guitarist Christopher Curran, emo-pop heartbreaker Val Astaire is soon to make another bold impression as he delivers his long-awaited debut album Fever Dream in early 2020, already previewed by the stunning new single Say You Will.
So with his public image soon to explode, we thought now would be a good time to grab his ear and find out more about his musical influences and what he has in store for the rest of the year.
What is the first album that you bought?
The first I ever actively wanted was Backstreet Boys –‘Millennium’ haha. The first I bought I believe was Blink 182’s ‘Take Off Your Pants And Jacket’.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
Emo or pop?
UGH I will always be an emo kid. Emo. Haha
We love Say You Will. What is the inspiration behind the video for the track?
Awe thank you! I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember and through a lot of my writing, I’ve been pretty transparent about it. This time though, I didn’t want to talk about mine – I wanted to extend a hand to anyone who needs it. “You can lean on me too.”
What’s in store for you for the rest of the year?
Music Videos Music Videos Music Videos hahaha I’ve just relocated my life from NYC to LA so touring has been put on hold and I’m going to dive more into the creative field of things. Creating a lot of visuals and concept pieces as well as a music video for every single. I’ll be holding a pop up shop art gallery for the album’s release with all of the work I create over the next couple months!
Val Astaire’s new single Say You Will is available to stream and download now, and his debut full-length Fever Dreams is due out in spring 2020.
