VAARIN Delivers Audible Hug With DARLING

“That love you feel just by knowing someone inside out. A love so huge no words are big enough to explain, yet we tend to forget this kind of love. It’s also a song about wanting to help the one you love, and about the frustration of not being able to.”

Norwegian singer Vaarin’s latest single, Darling, is the second to be taken from the forthcoming EP, Imaginary Movies. Released alongside a uniquely wholesome behind the scenes video that displays the whole production process, this newest song is warmth in a bottle.

Diving into the lower ranges of Vaarin’s vocals before breaking into more wistful tones later on, Darling is built upon simple piano and cello foundations that form a comforting base for the singer to dance around above. Going even further in the pursuit to maintain authenticity, the single follows Vaarin’s mantra of embracing production sounds and quirks, from the clicks of the piano to even a passing train, with the track being consistently grounded and satisfying because of it.

“It’s all about that everyday love, that love you feel watching television with your family on the couch.” Says Vaarin, who took time during the quieter months of 2020 to write the four track EP. “That love you feel just by knowing someone inside out. A love so huge no words are big enough to explain, yet we tend to forget this kind of love. It’s also a song about wanting to help the one you love, and about the frustration of not being able to.”

With the success of the eerie and haunting first single, Lighthouse, this EP do far has already shown the singer’s ability to audibly showcase both dark and bright feelings. With last year’s EP, Bitter Taste of Goodbye, being the proving grounds for Vaarin’s talent, this newest follow-up will be hotly anticipated.
