We caught up with Australian singer/songwriter Trent-Jean for some QuickFire Questions alongside some background on the music video for the powerfully uplifting rock single ‘HIGH3R‘, a cathartic endeavour spurred on by the news of his father’s terminal brain cancer.
“After my Dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at the close of last year (during the middle of the completion of ‘HIGH3R’), the motivation behind the energy of the song shifted gears from a song about love + desire, to a song about rising above the challenges we face in this lifetime, such as death.
I recorded my Dad saying the title of the EP ‘DEATHIS4L’ILLUSION’ (meaning: death is for the illusion) to introduce the track, I then filmed him for the music video stating the line.
Wanting to bring love and light during the turbulent times that the world is facing currently – I decided to embrace the essence of seeing the the wonder in life that of the perception of the inner-child, and projecting that feeling into the project. Highlighting and putting forth to the world the magic that I witness and experience at Poons Head Studios, and the spectacular locals & residents of the iconic recording studio owned by Rob Grant.
Teaming together a wonderful all WA (barre Nile Plumb – Stop Motion Animator, still wonderful) crew and creative team (from record to music video) from performers as young as 2 years old to 70 years of age, incorporating elements of stop-motion animation, acting, immersive visuals and live performance footage. I worked closely with Video-Editor Extraordinaire Tim Green (ONOFF Visuals), to bring the vision to life.
I truly hope to make those who watch this music video, feel a dose of electric light and colour.. and be encouraged, or even just comforted during the turbulence of human life, in these times – connecting with the inner child.. that ‘Super-Hero’ we all once wanted to be as a kid, and that “Rockstar” we all have within us.“
