THE MOONTOWN PROJECT Talk About MADEMOISELLE

"The track is our newest indietronic number, written to get people grooving across cities. There is a heavy garage element to the percussive parts but we were very conscious not to lose what we’ve been told is our signature heavy synths and groovy guitar licks that have compartmentalized so much of our sound throughout its evolution."

Having recently relocated to Leeds, UK, The Moontown Project has dropped an infectious ethereal dance track, titled Mademoiselle, that will make you wish you were back on the dancefloor like you were before COVID-19 affected the world.

Delving into psychedelic synths and trance vibes, Mademoiselle‘ brings unstoppable energy from the get-go. The harmonized vocals sink effortlessly with the funk-inspired beats and the UK garage baseline, creating this space-like melody saddled with a trippy atmosphere. It’s quite a combination of sound that not only completely works but also hooks you in every way.

The Moontown Project said of the song: “Mademoiselle embraces some of the two-step rhythms, funky bass and ethereal synth lines that once seemed so familiar when DJs and bands performed in the pre-COVID world. By bringing signature sonic aspects and merging them with melodic harmonized vocal lines and indie/post-punk influenced lyrics, Mademoiselle is a track that finds the perfect balance between euphoria and nostalgia.”

The track is our newest indietronic number, written to get people grooving across cities.

What was it like to record the track?

We thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of delving slightly outside our comfort zone with this one. The challenge of recording vocals across two cities was a big one but one that allowed us the opportunity to travel with long journeys being a good source of opportunity for critical listening and writing; there is something about a long journey that gets the creative juices flowing for us.

This song was your 2nd release of 2021, how does this song feel different compared to the other songs you have released?

The first release of 2021 Moon Honey was the start of us delving as far as we’ve ever been into the electro dance floor sound and we enjoyed the process so much and gained such great feedback from it that we decided to go again; this time even further and we are so glad we did. So far the response to Mademoiselle has been absolutely incredible so hopefully long May that continue.

How would you describe the track?

The track is our newest indietronic number, written to get people grooving across cities. There is a heavy garage element to the percussive parts but we were very conscious not to lose what we’ve been told is our signature heavy synths and groovy guitar licks that have compartmentalized so much of our sound throughout its evolution.

You’ve recently relocated to Leeds, what’s it like being there, how are you finding the city, and what’s it like to create music in Leeds?

We have indeed, after falling out of love with the hustle and bustle of London slightly we have decided to permanently base ourselves up here and it’s been the best decision we’ve ever made. Like London it’s such a hotbed for undiscovered talent and the possibilities for collaboration are absolutely endless which is great for us as we’d like to think of ourselves as quite versatile. We miss London deeply but with so many friends still there it is still and always will be a huge influence and massive part of our sound. With stogey records, our label also based there, we often have to opportunity to go back and see old friends which is always great as well.

And finally, what can we expect from you for the rest of the year?

Well, we have another few singles already in the works which we are already very excited for everyone to hear. And so another 2 singles at least should hit the shelves. We just feel like with each release we as artists and our sound as a whole is growing and we just want to keep as busy as we can because that keeps us happy and when we’re happy we feel like that’s when some of our best work comes out of us.
