Refreshing funk-soul duo The Good Manners talk to FM, ahead of their engaging & eclectic debut EP, Godspeed, out 17th July. Lifted from the EP, here’s standout single High Roller…
Hey guys! How are you today?
Hello! We’re all good here, how are you?
I’m feeling grand thanks guys! Please introduce yourselves to our readers:
We’re The Good Manners, a duo from Guatemala and Spain who live and make music in London.
Your new single High Roller is out now! What’s it all about?
We wrote High Roller thinking of how the day-to-day routine can become a bit monotonous and boring, maybe certain things that we used to love don’t feel the same anymore. It’s a soundtrack for trying out new things!
You’re also releasing your debut EP Godspeed this month, which is really exciting! Are there any similar themes running through it?
Every song on the EP is inspired by different issues and situations that we all face eventually. Love, frustration, excitement and other feelings have their own place throughout the mixtape, and they all make up the concept of the EP.
How have you been keeping yourselves entertained during lockdown?
The lockdown has been a weird one. It certainly has made us think about our lives and where we’re going next, you could say there’s been a lot of meditation involved. Marcos has been practicing his cooking skills in Spain where his family lives, and Gabe has done a lot of cycling (with Marcos’ bike) around London. Most importantly we’re working on the next project, and the one after that.
Describe your sound in five words:
Groovy, raw, edgy, tight, funky.
If you could collaborate with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
As much as we love the 70’s and a lot of older artists, Kanye has to be at the top of the list.
What’s the music scene like in Guatemala and Spain, respectively?
Spain has a lot of very talented people and its music scene is growing and very diverse at the moment. Guatemala is a very young scene, growing up there was always just a couple of bands, but now there are many new sounds and really cool artists in the making. Drop us a message if you want any recommendations!
Will do!…What are your plans for the rest of 2020?
It is a bit hard to start planning stuff again given the circumstances, but definitely new music and content. Another EP? Who knows. Follow us to stay tuned.
Where can we find you online?
Gabe is an instagram junkie so feel free to get in touch through our insta (@goodgoodmanners). We also post a lot of cool stuff so go check us out and don’t forget to say hi.
Any last words?
