Teö Quickfire Questions

Despite only kicking off his career a few weeks ago, Filipino-born singer and producer Teö has already began to make some serious waves with his debut single History. With its dark yet nostalgic sound, many have begun comparing him to the likes of Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd since its release.

So with the buzz truly setting in now, we thought we’d take the opportunity to find out more about the young singer, as well as what he has in sort for us in the months to come.

What is the first album that you bought?

I actually never bought my ‘first album’ – growing up my generation has been all about streaming and downloads so it’s funny that the concept of buying albums was already being phased out then. I really just watched a lot of Youtube and when I could, downloaded as much music as I could get my hands on. One vivid memory I have is listening to Ed Sheeran’s first album probably over 1000 times. I loved it. I also loved that I had absolutely no idea how to pronounce it. Definitely a big musical inspiration that drove me to write my own songs.

The Philippines or further afield?

I was born in the Philippines but my family wanted more opportunities and moved us to the Cayman Islands – I miss all my family at home of course but moving away allowed to find my sound and develop as an artist. I would love the opportunity to go back and bring my music to everyone there – I feel as a country, the Philippines are so creatively talented so I’m just proud to be a part of it and excited to share what I do.

What does it feel like to release your debut single, History?

Amazing. Haha – yeah it’s streaming really well and I was blessed to have Russ Chell co-produce it. He heard it after my manager played it for him and loved the sound so it was pretty crazy to get to work with him, especially after he just finished doing Lil Nas X’s records. Funnily enough, my EP, which is coming soon, is all produced by Russ Chell and Epikh Pro so it’s pretty insane that this one song opened up doors for me to work with some of the worlds super producers – never thought I would get this opportunity.

What is ‘History’ about?

History is all about living in the present. Forget what’s gone before and make use of the time you spend now. Too many people dwell on things that can no longer be changed.

What is in store for the rest of the year?

I’m going to release a second single off the EP called ‘Love Me’, which is one of the records produced by Russ Chell and Epikh Pro, so I’m excited to share that. The EP should come right at the start of next year but in the meantime I would love to go back to the Philippines and make some music there, should the opportunity present itself.

Teö’s latest single History is available to stream and download now. Have a listen to it in the player below.
