Superstar Corinne Bailey Rae Has Blossomed

Following last week’s fantastic gig at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Corinne Bailey Rae has announced details of three brand new UK shows including a hometown gig in Leeds.
Corinne’s new single, ‘Paris Nights/ New York Mornings’ is released on March 29th, she then heads over to the US for a major tour in support of her new album, ‘The Sea’.
Reviews of Shepherds Bush Empire:
“Her new songs are deeper, her voice is richer… and she transformed ‘Que Sera Sera’ into a rocker and ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’ into a reggae skank… ‘Paper Dolls’, ‘The Sea’ and ‘Are You Here’ were cathartic for their creator but were also beguiling genre-benders touching on art-rock, soul and gospel.”
Evening Standard, 4 stars

“Rae’s five piece backing band played superbly. Subterranean funk bass lines and languid drumming… underpinned guitars and keyboards that sounded like a Hammond organ… ‘Que Sera Sera’ [was] recast here in the slow funked-up style of Sly & The Family Stone… But it was Rae’s own songs that dominated the show. From the uptempo funk of ‘The Blackest Lily’ to the slow, intense balladry of ‘The Sea’ with which she ended the show, this was a perfectly poised yet plangent performance from a star who has blossomed in tragic circumstances.”
The Times, 4 stars

“With her band, a collection of astoundingly talented musicians who broke into vocal part-harmony and cut to solos with telepathic ease… Bailey Rae inhabits the layered sounds of her new compositions, her closed eyes and raised arms testifying to their healing properties… She outclasses her younger peers by side-stepping the constraints of pop [and] in song she becomes a veritable superstar… When she’s ready, the world awaits.”
