"I missed the silly drama and getting too drunk and stupid dancing in a club with a sticky floor. I even missed the hangovers. I wrote the song about mourning the loss of that carefree life, knowing that I’d never get it back."

Brimming with indie-pop goodness, Sukie shares her more than delightful new single ‘Heart Emoji’ and we are big fans. The track itself channels nostalgia and longing for the past, meanwhile, being is delicately intertwined with feelings of warmth and appreciation for having those times – the result is Sukie’s signature playful yet poignant lyricism.

Explaining this in more detail, Sukie states; “Covid hit when I was in my last year of uni and I ended up moving away from all my friends in the midst of lockdown. Most people I didn’t get to say goodbye to. It was such a crazy contrast going from being surrounded by all my best friends to moving to a city where I knew no one. It took me a year to make many new friends and I was really really lonely – that’s where the heart emoji came from. I missed my friends so much! I missed feeling sexy and getting ready with my girlfriends, helping each other do our hair and makeup. I missed the silly drama and getting too drunk and stupid dancing in a club with a sticky floor. I even missed the hangovers. I wrote the song about mourning the loss of that carefree life, knowing that I’d never get it back. I feel like this was such a universal feeling at the time when we were all stuck inside for months on end, and I wanted the music video to capture that lonely experience.”

The release comes with an endearing visualiser bringing to life the sentiment of the track, as Sukie trails through a house party setting as an onlooker to her friends evening escapades. With soft lighting and a warm colour palette, its hard not to align the video aesthetic with a scene out of a noughties movie and we are addicted.
