An impressive British cast, led by British Independent Film Award Nominee Gary Stretch (Dead Man’s Shoes, Alexander), Vinnie Jones (X-Men:The Last Stand, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), musician Lee Ryan from ‘Blue’ in his first on-screen role, Academy Award® Nominee Stephen Rea (The Crying Game, V for Vendetta), Adrian Paul (Highlander Endgame, Alien Tracker), Christopher Lee (Alice in Wonderland, The Lord of The Rings), Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale, 40 Days and 40 Nights) and Sadie Frost (Love, Honour and Obey) come together in a political crime thriller of family rivalry and betrayal: THE HEAVY.
Boots (Stretch), is a henchman for a successful but shady businessman, and is locked into his life of crime. Newly released from prison he attempts to leave his troubled ways behind him – but to do this he must complete just one last assignment – to assassinate his own brother Christian, an MP hotly tipped to be the next Prime Minister.

Gary Stretch stars as the complex anti-hero of the film, Mitchell “Boots” Mason. Released early from prison, Boots soon realises that freedom comes at a price, and either he or his brother, Christian, will have to pay dearly. A former boxing champion, Stretch is now an established actor with over 25 film credits to his name, including World Trade Centre (2006) and Alexander (2004).

When Boots is given the opportunity to finally exact his revenge on the brother who testified against him and helped land him in jail in the first place – the temptation is too great to resist… As events take a downward spiral, Boots realises that he can’t take anything for granted, especially not when family is involved.

Vinnie Jones plays Inspector Dunn, a vicious policeman with a personal grudge against Boots. When Christian decides that Boots needs to be dealt with, Dunn is his first port of call. Since making his big screen debut in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (2001), Jones has gone on to appear in nearly 50 films, including X-Men: The Last Stand (2006).
Stephen Rea is antiques dealer and local Mr Big, Anawalt, who Boots finds himself indebted to after his early release. After dragging Boots into his shady dealings, Anawalt offers the ex-con the chance to wipe the slate clean, if he is prepared to take on one last job. Rea has a wealth of acting experience in films such as Stuck (2009) and V for Vendetta (2006).
Lee Ryan is Anawalt's assistant Rubin. Best known as a member of the boy band, Blue, Ryan makes his acting debut in The Heavy.

Marcus Warren makes his directorial debut with THE HEAVY, a stylish portrayal of inner city London. Original music is by legendary music producer and DJ, Paul Oakenfold. Packing a punch, THE HEAVY doesn’t hold back and exposes a world where you can trust no one and loyalty is rare.

THE HEAVY is released in cinemas across the UK on 16th April 2010.
