STRANGER GIRL Quickfire Questions

Having already made huge waves since their previous singles landed on Spotify’s Hot New Bands playlist, as well as being named Track Of The Day on BBC Introducing South, Brighton’s latest indie-rock quartet Stranger Girl have now returned with their new single Find The Humour, which is already producing shockwaves for the band once again.

So with their latest offering cementing them as future stars in the making, we sat down with frontwoman Melissa Douglas to find out more about their influences and what plans they have as we head into 2020.

Your sound has been compared to the likes of Blondie, The Strokes and The Smiths. Can you tell us who has had the biggest influence over your music?

It’s hard to pinpoint to one! The Strokes have definitely been a major influence in terms of hooks and arrangement. But also contemporary bands such as Catfish and the Bottlemen have helped us gear towards a poppier sound. Lyrically I’ve always looked to bands like Modest Mouse and Car Seat Headrest too.

The tracks you have released so far usually have a story running through them. Are they inspired by true events or is it more about creating an image for the listener to connect with?

They’re definitely always inspired by true events! I use my lyrics as an outlet for personal circumstances, so I can’t help but always put a piece of myself into everything we put out there.

You have been sporadically dropping singles throughout this year so far. Are there any plans for an album or EP in the near future?

We would so love to drop an EP or album at some point soon. I’d say we have the material for it, once we’ve really got a presence established I think it’ll be our first priority.

And what about your plans for the New Year? Are you planning any more releases or live dates soon?

We have a Brighton gig planned to kick off the New Year on the 19th January! We’d love to start planning a tour in 2020, and also play some festivals! A lot of things are in the pipeline at the moment and we’re excited to see where it goes.

And finally, what has been your favourite memory since starting the band?

There’s so many! We recently played at the Camden Assembly, which was the best night. We powered up with pre-show burgers and played to an awesome crowd, it was super fun and reminded us all why we love playing so much.
