Sheffield-based rockers Steal The City – Sam Bantock (vocals/bass), Tom ‘Smit’ Smith (guitar), Joe Hanson (guitar), Ellis Bullement (drums) – present their debut single ‘Beating Heart’, out now via Redemption / Dharma Records.
Hi Steal The City! How’s it going?
It’s going great thanks, thank you for taking the time to chat to us.
Please tell us about your new single ‘Beating Heart’.
Beating Heart is a huge track for us, it’s been a long time coming but we are completely over the moon with the reception we have received with this single. Beating Heart is about finding comfort through music after a long personal struggle. It is our first professionally recorded single and we are all very proud of it.
Describe yourselves in five words.
Energetic, dedicated, enthusiastic, humble chaps.
What’s the music scene like in Sheffield at the moment? Any recommendations?
We cannot speak highly enough of the Sheffield local music scene. There has been some huge bands come out of Sheffield in the last decade. On a more local level our good friends Fear Lies, Skyligers and Molly Anna really helped build our presence in the local music scene.
Who are your biggest influences?
Sam – Muse, A Day to Remember, Fall Out Boy
Ellis – Alter Bridge, The Killers, Lamb of God
Joe – Three Days Grace, Bullet for my Valentine, HIM
Smit – My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Pierce the Veil
Any live dates coming up?
We are playing the O2 Academy in Sheffield on 29th September, RS bar Sheffield on 9th September. We are gearing up for some bigger shows coming next year.
If you could collaborate with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Sam – Jeremy McKinnon – He was a huge influence on my early songwriting and singing
Joe – Lemmy Killmeister – He’s a musician who has been in the business all his life and I would love to sit him down and pick his brains
Ellis – James Hetfield – His iconic vocals would be brilliant to hear on a Steal the City track
Smit – Slash – He’s one of the musicians who really influenced me right from the beginning
What are your plans for the rest of 2017?
2017 is not over for us yet, we have a few surprises up our sleeves, some live shows and some not. You’ll have too keep an eye out on our social media for more information.
