STAY GLDN QuickFire Questions

By JJ Disco

Exciting new Bristol-based duo STAY GLDN unveils future-pop gem Bloom and eagerly answers our QFQs.

What was the first album you bought?

Anders: Dave Martone – A Demons Dream, this album contains some of the most incredible guitar playing I have ever heard, it blew my mind as a young player.

Thom: Daft Punk – Homework, this was my introduction to my love of dance music, incredible beats, and bass. Da Funk was my favorite on the album.

Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations and why?

Anders: The production style of Timbaland has always inspired me because of his unique use of timbre and feel, he manages to make the most minimalist arrangements feel huge. Artistically the band Meshuggah has a creative vision that is absolutely seminal, their album Catch Thirtythree changed the landscape of heavy music permanently.

Thom: The indie music scene was a massive influence on my musical upbringing, mainly the driving beats and melodic focus of the toplines. In terms of artists, Prince is an all-around genius! I Wanna Be Your Lover is the perfect pop song.

What are some non-musical inspirations that motivate your music?

Anders: Conversations with friends and family about relationships, worries, and doubts tend to inspire storylines that cause the initial spark for a song idea or concept. I think a shared experience between two people can offer a perspective that makes for a unique song.

Thom: I find it really inspiring traveling to different countries and seeing how people differ culturally. The aesthetic of cityscapes at night seems to inspire a strange sense of creativity within me. Relationships also play a massive part in writing songs for me.

Tell us about your single ’Bloom’?

Anders: Thom and I were speaking about how romantic relationships rely on the promise of a future and when things fall apart that future becomes uncertain.

Thom: Bloom is written about the future of a relationship that never came to be.

What have you got lined up for the rest of the year (2021)?

Anders: We have lots of music ready to release this year that showcases some really interesting sides to our writing and production.

Thom: I’m looking forward to releasing the artistic content that accompanies our vision for STAY GLDN, we can’t wait to share it with the world.
