Autumn becomes sweeter with the release of Start of Something by Irish pop music sensation Rachael O’Connor. The track is more than a catchy tune; it’s a mood-elevating, energetic pop-power sing-along that showcases O’Connor‘s vocal prowess against a backdrop of breezy production, with a nod to 90s pop classics and influential vibes.
Speaking about the genesis of Start of Something, O’Connor reveals, “I originally wrote this song back in 2016 with Sam Merrifield (Mimi Webb/Lewis Capaldi) and Hannah Wilson (The Pussycat Dolls/Tove Lo/HRVY/Galantis). I was 19, newly single and enjoying life with my friends who always joked that I fell in love way too quick, which I can admit was and still is true. I love the excitement of meeting someone new, making eye contact for the first time, the nerves that stop you from playing anything but cool, and the butterflies and fireworks that we feel. So that is where Start of something (SOS) came from. It’s about meeting someone from across the room and immediately fantasising about your happily ever after. Which may not end up happening, but it’s fun at the time. This is an upbeat happy love song that I’m so excited to finally share with the world.”
Rachael O’Connor‘s trajectory in the music industry has been nothing short of spectacular. First making waves at just 16 on The Voice UK, where she reached the quarter-finals under the guidance of Kylie Minogue, Rachael has since collaborated with Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance, graced the Queen’s Jubilee stage in 2022, and even charmed audiences on The Jimmy Kimmel Show in the US. Recently, she embarked on a whirlwind tour with the legendary Duran Duran, elevating her career to new heights.
The magic of Start of Something was brought to life in the heart of pop music – Stockholm, Sweden. O’Connor, in collaboration with Swedish producer Johannes Willinder, known for his work with GIRLI and TWICE, has crafted a rhythmically upbeat summer pop song that is both sweetly melodic and vocally awe-inspiring. The result is a track with an edge of its own, perfectly balancing excitement and rhythm.
Collaborating with Willinder, Rachael O’Connor, propelled by the contagious beats of Start of Something, not only raises the tempo but also crafts a melodic canvas that captures the thrill of fresh romance. In her role as an artist, she boldly infuses the pop scene with her irresistible energy, building anticipation as we eagerly await the unfolding of the next phase of her sparkling pop offering.
