It’s officially spring, which means it’s time to store away the cozy jumpers and add maybe add some trendy spring items to your wardrobe. While there’s no need to become a slave to fashion, it wouldn’t hurt to give your wardrobe some gentle updates in time for the warmer and longer days, which are well and truly on the way, ready or not. So what are the essential fashion trends hitting the shelves in spring 2018?
Let’s start with colors
The ubiquitous pink trend is forced to move over and give some space to violet. On the authority of the Pantone Color Institute, the color of the year 2018 is ‘ultraviolet’. This spring don’t forget to add some violet to your outfit, especially soft shades of lavender or lilac. This color is elegant, romantic and chic at once. From dresses to pants, hats to bags, there are many ways to add a little twist of lavender here and there. If you have some weddings to attend this year, then soft, flowery lavender is just the ticket. If purple isn’t your thing, try other pastels – pastel green, pastel blue, anything that has a bit of white blended into it is going to look fabulous in your wardrobe this spring! Pink or pale yellow are still really big meanwhile and can be combined with purple hues for a candy-colored kaleidoscope look. You might want to invest in a pastel item or two immediately, as they are sure to get plenty of wear.
The tiny sunglasses trend
You’ll want to collect them all! This trend has been spotted everywhere, from Louis Vuitton to Balenciaga and we are loving the 90s flashbacks. You can easily don a pair of these shades with the simplest outfits to totally transform your look.
These frames aren’t the most practical as they aren’t going to really protect your eyes from the sun, and so are reserved for the most sartorial brave among us aiming for top marks in cool this season.
Fanny packs: back and cooler than ever
If you’re a real fashionista who loves trends, then you’re probably already the proud owner have one or two of these bad boys. You might have some doubts about this trend, but for inspiration look not further than the likes of Rihanna, Bella Hadid, Chiara Ferragni or Kendall Jenner, who expertly morphed this look into a crossbody style. Even big designers sent their models trotting down the runways sporting fanny packs this season.
The best thing about these bags no doubt is that they are super practical, keeping your hands free while your hips do the talking. Good for toting a minimal number of essentials and not much else, if you like a combination of simple elegance with comfort and casual style, then get on board with this trend, because it’s here to stay until further notice.
The next spring trend is gingham and checks in a variety of types and sizes. This classic fabric has been seen at many fashion shows and is a major print of the season, which can be a good alternative if you’re feeling fed up with florals. Try donning some cool check culottes to school or work paired with a stylish blazer for a sharp spring look.
Get your nerd on this spring!
One major example of this is seen in Rihanna’s recent Fenty University collection for Puma, which shifts geekwear to a high fashion level. The fashion show took place at a library, where Rihanna transformed the library desks into runways. Acing your math tests while ranking up top style marks doesn’t have to be an impossible feat, especially if you use the right resources .
Show up ready to kick exam butt in a tough girl uniform as part of the kahki trend. And don’t forget to add the finishing ‘wow’ touches to your ensemble with a fresh pair of sneakers.
Sheerness and translucency is clearly showing up as one of the spring fashion trends that are going to be huge this season. If you have some spring garden party, wedding or prom coming, this is a very pretty and feminine way to show off a little skin. If you want to take this trend one step further, zoom in on your accessories in order to really embody the trend. A see-through bag is one major way. The one thing about this style of bag is that you need to think very carefully about what you are putting in it as it will draw attention.
Jeans have been a wardrobe staple for generations and for good reason. This year the trick will be to wear different washes and colors together to offer up a lot of versatility. But it’s not just about light washes or distressed details as you might expect when it comes to denim being dominant in spring fashion trends 2018. We can also count on the styling to have a throwback touch with flared legs.
Feel free to hit the vintage shops near you and stock up on as many denim pieces as you can carry!
Pearls: always appropriate
You might already have some shoes, bags or other accessories with pearls on it, but this season expect to see this universally flattering gem adorning clothing as well. For a feminine and flirty date night look try wearing a skirt or dress bedecked with pearls. For this look check out some pieces from Ted Baker, who always have the most feminine designs out there.
