Whilst a new body of work Love & Keep is on the horizon for Sophie Hutchings, She looks back on her last album Scattered On The Wind. A year after its release Sophie teams up with Turkish director Mu Tunc to visualize the stories of her two-part title track from the album. From the peaceful depths of the ocean to the chaotic center of a thunderstorm Sophie continues to convey her relationship with nature’s diverse elements.
“Scattered On The Wind’ Part I & II lay a symbolic foundation to the overall theme throughout the album. It tells an otherworldly like a tale of a character who has this insight into the natural elements” Sophie reflects “Perhaps an environment where one might feel a little unsettled, she feels at ease, without any form of vulnerability”. These artistic ideas of a deeper connection to the world have informed the creative decision-making in the video.
The multi-award winning Istanbul native Mu Tunc has helped to convey this power of the natural world, translating the themes which run through the veins of Sophie’s music onto the screen. The bleak symbolism uses multiple performers within the rugged natural world exploring the diversity of relationships with nature. Presented in a striking black and white the two creatives explore environmental relationships from vulnerability to freedom.
