Dundee-based Scary People – Daniel Forouhar, Scott Anderson, Steven Anderson, Jamie Brown, Troy Lynch – deliver their dirty, abrasive, yet beautifully crafted, alternative rock with the release of their single, ‘Guided By The Blind’, out now via RedRoom Recordings.
‘Guided By The Blind’ is the first single taken from Scary People’s debut album released Winter 2014, extending what the band left off with their sophomore EP Chicago!…
Hello Scary People. How are you?
On a scale of 1-10 how scary are you?
You’ve just released your latest single, ‘Guided By The Blind’. Tell us what it’s about.
It’s basically about how unpredictable my lifestyle is in terms of work and playing music, I’m either working and living alright or I’m playing music and broke.
You’ve had a hell of a year, what was it like playing the T In The Park?
T was excellent, great to see so many familiar faces and a lot of new ones too.
How did the crowd take to you?
Well nobody made an effort to tell us we were shit and it was definitely the biggest crowd we’ve played to, so I think we did alright.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
When we first started writing music, we listened to bands like QOTSA, Nine Inch Nails, Tame Impala A LOT of The Beatles.
How do these influences impact upon your songwriting?
We take most influence from the sonic qualities and arrangement of the songs we love. When it comes to actually writing the song – as long as it’s not too long and it’s relatively straight forward, we’re happy.
You are touring Scotland now. Which is your favourite town or city to play back home?
I mean it’s Dundee without a doubt, there’s been a lot of great shows with our friends back in the city. Saying that, we’ve been playing Glasgow quite a lot recently and more and more people are starting to turn up to our shows, I’m really excited about this gig at Broadcast we have coming up – I think it’s going to be a great night.
What are your plans for the rest of the year and the beginning of next?
Well we currently have ‘Guided By The Blind’ out. You can expect another single out around september time and by the end of the year expect an album. We’re working hard on it just now and it’s shaping up nicely.
If you had to choose one album to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I’d happily listen to ‘The White Album’ by The Beatles.
