Safe Again is the latest track from Michael Joyce, an electronica artist based in Norwich, UK, who says he’s been making music for 22 years and is now finally giving his music career his full attention. From Fleetwood Mac to Massive Attack, Michael’s music certainly has a diverse range of influences. His love for music and years of experience writing and producing his own music have combined to create atmospheric and cinematically surreal electronic music that can evoke powerful emotions and imagery once heard.

This downtempo electronic track was written and recorded during the lockdown, and Michael tells us that it was inspired by ‘‘the disparity between government dialogue on financial help during the early stages of the Covid crisis, and their simultaneous expectation that medical professionals should freely give up their lives in the line of duty.’’

Besides being a very well-produced piece of electronica music, Safe Again is also an important commentary on the harrowing reality of how so many front-line workers suffered and lost their lives during the pandemic – ‘’Sacrifice your futures for us,’’ Michael sings on the track. A jarring, slightly unsettling beat and droning synths reverberate with the pain and fear of that time in recent history. The emotions on this track are palpable, as it seems to embody that dystopian, apocalyptic feeling that is still lingering on from lockdown.
