Weymouth trio Sadcult turn home-studio flexibility into high-impact alternative rock on new single Outcry, combining distorted guitars, forceful drums and emotionally exposed songwriting.

Drawing on ’90s grunge, early-2000s alternative rock and pop-punk, the track balances abrasive production with a melodic “happy-sad” quality that has become central to the band’s sound. Sam Newland’s snarling vocal performance cuts through dense guitar layers, while the rhythm section keeps the arrangement urgent and direct.

Outcry is one of those songs that is going to mean something different depending on who’s listening to it. But at its core, Outcry touches on the reality of growing up and witnessing certain illusions fade, dealing with that frustration, and coming to terms with the fact that life very rarely plays out the way that you imagined it would.

The track is saturated in angst and has a very punk attitude throughout, very heavily influenced by bands such as early Green Day and Nirvana being the driving force behind the sound and overall energy. Outcry was mostly recorded at our small home studio, which gave us the freedom to really experiment and capture the energy we wanted, whilst having the drums recorded separately at Orchard Studios in Glastonbury by our mixing engineer Joe Marsh.

The hybrid recording process preserved Sadcult’s DIY immediacy while giving the drums greater power, showing how emerging bands can combine home production with specialist studio work.

Their growth also extends beyond streaming. Low inspired an international fan-made lyric video, while a sold-out hometown show highlighted their role in Weymouth’s alternative scene.

Live appearances at Duck & Dive Festival and support slots with The Jins, Sick Joy and James and the Cold Gun have expanded that momentum across the UK.

With Outcry, Sadcult connect the economics and creative freedom of DIY recording with the physical energy of grassroots touring. A model increasingly important for alternative artists building audiences without major-label infrastructure.
