RYAL’s Top 5 Influences Playlist

"Thom York’s solo records have been a constant source of inspiration. The beats and synth colors in particular always catch our ears."

RYAL is the electronic, alt, synth-based dual collaboration between singer and keyboardist Jacque Ryal and producer Aaron Nevezie, sharing their top 5 musical influences with us this week.

On their recent single, the duo shared that “‘Best Friend’ is dedicated to you and your furry friend. Inspired by a lullaby for Jacque’s late pup, it morphed into dreamy synth anthem recorded to tape and interlaced with puppy noises.”

RYAL has teamed up with Social Tees Animal Rescue as their charity pick for the release of ‘Best Friend‘. What’s more, they also embarked on collaborative fan art for the release, asking fans to submit pictures of their pets with 25 of the submissions selected and illustrated by Nashville artist PsychicLemonade in a Brady Bunch color block collage. We love the result and the good cause it supports. Check out ‘Best Friend’ along with RYAL‘s Top 5 Influences Playlist below.

Thom Yorke

Thom York’s solo records have been a constant source of inspiration. The beats and synth colors in particular always catch our ears. We’re also big fans of Nigel Goodrich’s work with Thom, Radiohead and Ultraista.

Stephan Bodzin

While we don’t make dance music we listen to a bunch of great artists like Bonobo, Four Tet, Kangding Ray, Aphex Twin. Stephan Bodzin is a favorite for super classy minimal techno. Great sounds and grooves. If we could only copy his high-hats!

Bomba Estereo

While we were late to discover Bombo Estereo’s 2015 record Amanecer it has been on high rotation since then. Fun energetic pop tracks with a large helping of percussion and guitar stylings from their homeland Columbia. Can’t get enough.

Jesse Ware

Jesse Ware has always been a source of vocal inspiration – but she really took it to another level and became almost unrecognizable in her record What’s Your Pleasure. We all know her voice is bananas incredible but what this record revealed is her true super power which is her ability to match a genre simply by her melodies and phrasing. She can sing any-thing.

Little Dragon

For those that know us, you know we are deeply inspired by Little Dragon. From their adventurous approach to making sounds/beats to Yukimi’s lyrics and understated but so full of emotional vocal delivery. Goals to open for them one day. I would literally sit on the side of the stage and watch them like a study if we had the chance.
