Swiss dynamic six-piece Rival Kings – Étienne Hilfiker (vocals), Rafael Schwab (guitar), Daniel Betschart (guitar), Dominique Marcel Iten (drums), Sandro Furrer (bass), Christopher James Christensen (Synth) – make rousingly catchy Rock’n’Roll, with a fitting dash of darkly modern pop vibe.
Their second album «WAR», focuses “on the inner struggle of a generation full of doubt and forced individuality…An ode to the lack of orientation of the so-called Generation Y.” To get a taste of their new album , here’s the video – directed by Andy Attenhofer – for standout track ‘Fever’.
What’s the idea behind the new track and video for ‘Fever‘?
It’s about the guilt you feel when you just can’t live up to someone else’s expectations, when you realize you just can’t give that person what he or she needs.
Can you talk about your new album?
«WAR» is a commentary on the inner struggle of a generation full of doubt and enforced individuality. It’s an ode to the lack of orientation of the so-called Generation Y, full to the brim with medication, captives of their own freedom, and in many ways more narrow-minded than the generations they deplore. A lonely generation.
What’s the music scene like in Switzerland?
The swiss music scene has made incredible strides forward over the last couple of years. Many amazing and very talented bands.Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Very difficult to answer. We all listen to very different genres and are very different personalities overall. Some of us love french and german rap, some prefer rock and blues, some listen to electronic music or bluegrass. Politically we agree more or less, but we have very different expectations and ideals in life.
Are you planning any live shows and what will they be like?
Lots of live shows planned, festivals and smaller club shows, but we can’t reveal too much just yet. Come see us 😉
What do you have planned next?
We’re really looking forward to releasing «WAR» later this year. And also playing live as much as possible!
