"The catastrophism that some experience with anxiety is so bad that it trumps all logic and reason. This song is a plea to take a deep breath and to not let your bad thoughts win."

Chris Considine, a singer-songwriter hailing from Western Massachusetts, joined us for some quick questions on his newest single Force of Nature which was released today.

The feel-good indie track was self-produced and inspired by influences including Declan Mckenna, The Strokes and MGMT. Chris, who has written over 500 songs, to date, shared some background on the inspiration behind the charismatic track and its encouraging message for listeners:

“The catastrophism that some experience with anxiety is so bad that it trumps all logic and reason. This song is a plea to take a deep breath and to not let your bad thoughts win.”

Check it out along with our QuickFire interview with Chris below.

What does the phrase “force of nature” mean to you in the context of this single?

This title was a way of saying that your perceived faults are natural and any hardship you encounter throughout life can be understood more thoroughly through a shift in perspective. The song itself was mainly focused around paranoia and anxiety.

You mastered the track with help from close family members and friends. Can you talk a bit about what that experience was like?

Having other ears to hear what you cannot is vital! I have some awesome friends who have always been eager and nice enough to help me with mixes and masters. My family, though knowing less about recording, can always tell a bad performance from a good one just from raw energy alone. Both of those perspectives helped me with this track!

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

When it comes to songwriting, editing is your best friend. My late guitar teacher taught me that when he could tell I got overly attached to some songs I wrote. It takes a lot longer than one might know to write a good song! One way is not always the right way.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

I would love to open for Declan Mckenna, The Shins, or possibly MGMT. All three of those bands, I think, would mesh well with my music! I love their use of guitar and synths to make energetic tracks.

What can we look forward to next from you?

After this single, I will be putting the final touches on my 6th album before putting it out at the end of the year! Force of Nature may be the title track, but we will see…
