"When I wrote Ur Girl’s Fine, I was well and truly trapped in a toxic and abusive environment, and the song was just a way for me to romanticize the whole situation; a way to convince myself it was all normal and fine”

Bringing irresistible synth-pop melodies to 2021, Huddersfield singer-songwriter PENNY is back with another new single, Ur Girl’s Fine, to continue her meteoric rise.

With an addictive background melody and smoothly slowed down drumbeat, Ur Girl’s Fine doesn’t rush itself to the end, instead offering a relaxing instrumental for PENNY’s expressive vocal lines to play around on top of. Taking herself back to her university days, the track relates to a tough time in the artist’s life, as what was meant to be some of the best times of her youth were absorbed by a toxic relationship.

“When I wrote Ur Girl’s Fine, I was well and truly trapped in a toxic and abusive environment, and the song was just a way for me to romanticize the whole situation; a way to convince myself it was all normal and fine,” Explains PENNY, who collaborated once more with producer Will Serfass in the creation of the track. “I feel sorry for the girl who wrote this song back then, but I also feel so proud of how much she’s grown and changed.”

Accompanied by an 80s styled grain-heavy music video, Ur Girl’s Fine acts as an ode to the Northern Quarter Family in Huddersfield, a place she exclaims is her ‘safe place’, aiding in the local music scene that she rose through. With her debut EP scheduled for 2022, this latest single showcases all the songwriting and musical talents of the rising star.
