Turks and Caicos 1aIf you’re an adamant outdoor enthusiast, the island of Turks and Caicos has a lot to offer. As you’d expect, most of the island’s recreation centers on the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. While the island offers plenty in the way of kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, and fishing, watersports aren’t the only adventures in town.

Some may or may not be aware that the island of Turks and Caicos has been lobbying to become part of Canada for years. Unfortunately, it seems as though the winter-minded recreationists in that northern country see little value in including the beautiful island. turks-caicos2Despite being continually shunned by Canada, Turks and Caicos continues to expand their outdoor recreation opportunities, and if you’re thinking of vacationing there this year, you should surely consider exploring private Turks and Caicos vacation villa rentals!turks-caicos3If you’re planning on visiting Turks and Caicos this year, you must know about a few of the amazing outdoor adventure opportunities available on the island.

Snorkeling Galore

The islands offer a plethora of exceptional snorkeling opportunities, including the Caicos Cays, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, South Caicos, Grand Turk, or Salt Cayturks-caicos-snorkeling1Take a Beach Cruise.

That being said, you can also find excellent snorkeling right in Grace Bay. Be sure to check out the established snorkel trails at Smith’s Reef and Bight Reef for easy access to a fragile, but amazingly beautiful world. kitty-kat-cruise1In the Caicos Cays, there are a number of tour-boat operators to choose from, and you’ll be able to select from ample options for both half-day and full-day excursions. If your trip includes a stop on Little Water Cay, be sure to enjoy the beautiful setting of this protected nature reserve that’s home to a rare colony of rock iguanas.

Horseback Riding

Zero riding experience is required to enjoy a casual stroll atop a majestic horse in Long Bay, Provo. The beautiful beach is a great place for an afternoon trot atop the gentle mounts of Provo Ponies. For more experienced riders, the ponies have no problem kicking it up for a more exhilarating beach gallop. Turks and Caicos horse riding1Sunset at Grace Bay

If you head down to Grace Bay shortly before sunset, you’ll often find that you have a surprising amount of uninhabited beach to yourself. At this sublime part of the day, the sand cools down on your feet and the waters take on the magnificent pink and purple hues of the setting sun. Stop into a beachfront cocktail bar to enjoy a drink while you watch for the famous green flash on the horizon. turks-caicos1

Dive the Wall off Grand Turk

If simple snorkeling doesn’t do it for you, and you’re seeking a deeper, more intimate experience with the ocean, there’s no more dramatic dive spot in all the islands. Just about 900 feet offshore, the continental shelf drops off in rapid relief from the coral reef. The ledges of this sheer wall provide shelter for many forms of beautiful, and strange, marine life. ospreybeachhotel1If you’re traveling to Turks and Caicos in the near future, you should be sure to explore all the outdoor adventures that the islands have to offer.
