The splendidly talented, Brighton-based, stunning Anglo-Italian singer-songwriter Olivia Sebastianelli, shares this brilliant video – shot in one take by Yellow Haus’ Patrick Meier – for ‘Lighting Fires’, an instantly catchy and powerful pop tune.
“Like any story, there’s a beginning, middle and end. Lighting Fires is the middle” – says Meier – ”It is the struggle we all face before choosing our path. This single-take music video is a physical and visceral journey through Olivia’s trials and tribulations as a developing artist and woman. A symbolic visual biography, if you will.”
‘Lighting Fires’ is about “letting go of all the bad stuff. All the hate, all the grudges, all the pain anyone has ever caused you – explains Olivia – It’s about personal growth and moving on but also meeting someone that enables you to that. Maybe that person is a lover or a friend or a member of your family. Whoever they may be it’s about allowing yourself to truly feel in order to be able to truly move on…I gave everything to that song…
By the time I’d finished recording it, I was exhausted! It’s a big track, vocally, but I wanted to make a statement with my first single, and I think I’ve done that with Lighting Fires. I like to call what I make lifestyle music. It’s the sort of music you put on when you go for a long drive, music that quite literally takes you on a journey. We’re all continually evolving and I try to create moments in songs that reflect that.” She adds: “I think I’m very honest. Not just in my music but in my appearance too…I’m just a real person doing what I love to do. I’m proud to make pop and to pour my heart out. I’m not singing someone else’s songs; I’m not singing something for the sake of it, for fame or for acclaim. I’m just doing me and I think that’s just fine.”
