ODD BEHOLDER: Everyone Should Be An Eco Activist!

Swiss art-pop songstress/concept artist, Daniela Weinmann aka Odd Beholder, is back with a new single titled Disaster Movies. The song was taken from her upcoming sophomore LP Sunny Bay, due to drop on Sinnbus / Mouthwatering Records this autumn. It’s dark and entertaining; an absurdist rendering of an eco-disaster as seen through the eyes of a couple of film buffs, who have something of a penchant for Hollywood movies that deal with disasters.

The twist comes when the two of them find themselves facing the real thing – their hometown being wiped out before their eyes – and are completely incapable of any type of action, much less any heroism. In fact, they are unable to even process this newfound reality – paralyzed by how mundane a disaster is in actuality and how impractical all the gifts of civilization become, so quickly! And there is no ready-made solution to deal with any of it because most of us never had to!

As grim and as poignant as the social commentary it delivers, Disaster Movies is actually a very soothing, radio-friendly slice of synth-pop. It’s light like oxygen and hits you like a breath of fresh air when you finally emerge from a stuffy, subterranean venue – after many, many hours spent amongst writhing, glossy, salty bodies – in the wee hours of the morning. Did I just imply leaving an actual club?! Oh! There aren’t any around these days?! Why is that?!

Like really, now?! My single takeaway from this song is: everyone needs to be an eco-activist if anything is ever to change for the better! Check yourself!
