Rising NYC band Blak Emoji, fronted by singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Kelsey Warren, have unveiled their fantastic new single, Swooning On You. Another great entry into their discography follows Mechanism, which was released in April, and precedes the release of their new album, which is expected to arrive in October.
Produced by Kelsey, the track stands out with its brilliant fusion of retro pop and electro R&B/soul. Speaking on the release, Kelsey says, “I was working on this beat in Logic on and off for a few weeks. I had the drum pattern and bassline down but went back and forth experimenting with sounds and ambient textures for quite a while.
“The lyrics were inspired by a recent conversation, and once the lyrical lightbulb turned on, the melody came out of nowhere. I completed the music, recorded the vocals in a day, put it all together, and mixed it. The song describes a ‘love at first connection’ vibe. That feeling you have when you relate to a person instantly without explanation.”
Having cultivated such an interesting sound and style, it’s no surprise the band’s fanbase has been growing with each release, and Swooning On You – arguably their best track to date – looks set to propel them to even greater heights. And with more new music expected over the months to come in the lead-up to the new album and live shows planned, Blak Emoji will be an act to watch out for over the next year and beyond.
