By Frank Bell

Based in Norway and creating some of the most unique and varied Nu-Jazz out there, two-piece songwriters Maelstrøm has just dropped the powerful new single Mare. Full of authentic jazz elements, big horn sections, and plenty of innovations on the genre. The new single Mare, is the first track from the duo’s forthcoming album and showcases how their sound is going to progress in the future.

Formed by music lovers, producers and composers – Malstrøm comprises of Vetle Junker (Verdensrommet, Softcore untd, Gundelach, Aurora) and Jonas Flemsæter Hamre (havene, Indre Sunnmøre Støylag, Angola70). The first single begins with a statement of intent, powerful horn stabs forebode the improvised nuances to come. The track builds slowly towards an upbeat groove, where each performer builds layers of synths, brass sections and intricate groove layers.
